14 Adams Road

Shaker Heights, Ohio 44122

The use of ‘request the honour of your presence’ is customarily restricted to religious ceremonies. For other ceremonies, alternative phrasing may be used such as ‘request the pleasure of your company.’

If directions will not be provided, it is

customary to include the address

of the ceremony and reception locations.

Reception information may be included on the invitation or on a separate accompaniment card.

......................

The most formal invitations, though rarely seen today, have the guests’ names hand-witten in on a separate line in lieu of  ‘your’ and do not have a response card, but instead request a written response from the guest after the last line of the invitation.

Wording for corporate events can vary greatly, depending on the event but should cover all the basic details: the company name (and most likely the logo), the type of event, the date and time, the location, and whether there is a response requested.

CORPORATE INVITATIONS

ADDRESSING FORMAL ENVELOPES

Some general notes about envelope addressing:

An inner envelope is rarely used today for formal invitations, but some couples still prefer it. Either way is considered acceptable.

If you include the 4-digit zip code extension (e.g., 44212-6273) on your envelopes the post office will not spray the bar code at the bottom of your envelopes, which keeps them cleaner looking when your guests receive them.

It is considered proper etiquette to always hand write the addresses on envelopes for formal invitations.

......................

To a married couple with the same last name:

......................

To a married couple with different last names: list the person you're closest with first on the outer and inner envelopes (if using). If you're equally close to both, list them in alphabetical order.

......................

To an unmarried couple living together: as with a married couple, both names should be included on the envelopes, but in this case, each name gets its own line.

......................

To a same-sex couple: use the same rules as you would for any other unmarried or married couple. If the couple is married, list the names on the same line.

......................

To a married female doctor or two married doctors:

......................

To guests with other distinguished titles: use the same rules for military personnel, judges, reverends, etc., that you use for doctors. If both titles don't fit on one line, indent the second line.

......................

To children and families: for girls under 18, use “Miss.” For girls over 18, use "Ms." or "Miss." For boys under 18, no title is required. For boys over 18, use “Mr.” Children 18 and older should receive their own invitations, unless they live with their parents.

If childrens' names are not included on the envelope it is assumed they are not invited.

Or, if she uses her husband's name:

Dr. Jennifer and Mr. Chris Smith

If both parties are doctors, you can address the outer envelope:
